It was a weekend full of fistic festivities that had its share of redemption, let downs and total domination, as the world of boxing witnessed a handful of worthy throw downs.

The weekend opened up with an entertaining ESPN’s Friday Night Fights, which had three fights for the night that had its share of bing, bang and booms!

Opening up the broadcast would feature two unbeatens remain as such as the former amateur standout junior welterweight prospect Prenice Brewer 15-0-1 (6) pounding out an unanimous decision victory over the very game Christopher Hernandez, and the hard hitting super middleweight sensation Edwin Rodriguez 14-0 (10) blasting out Maryland’s George Armenta in just forty-seven seconds of the opening round.

The main event of the night was a highly anticipated rematch as well as an IBF Jr. middleweight eliminator as Sechew Powell 26-2 (15) looked to avenge his 2008 knock out loss from the hands of Deandre Latimore 25-3 (15).

Powell used his efficient jab, hitting from angles and effective movement to avoid Latimore most of the way, but all though Powell was pecking away at the points at times Powell would fight off the ropes which gave Latimore some more ump with his punches.

Powell was seemingly stunned on a couple of occasions, but withstood the pain and pounded away at the right eye of Latimore, which was profoundly protruding, and banged his way to a vengeful victory via scores of 117-111, 116-112 and 114-114.

With the win, Powell will be in waiting for the outcome of the Cornelious Bundrage vs. Cory Spinks IBF championship showdown. .
