K9 Bundrage: "I am the Champion, not Cory Spinks!" By "Big Dog" Benny Henderson Jr, Doghouse Boxing (April 4, 2012) Doghouse Boxing - Tweet
IBF Light Middleweight champion Cornelius "K9" Bundrage 31-4 (18) is
set to defend his strap June 23rd against former foe Cory Spinks 39-6
(11). K9 defeated Spinks in 2010 via fifth round TKO, and has plans to
lay down the same destruction as before. in this exclusive interview the
K9 barks loud about it all, enjoy.
Benny Henderson Jr.:
It has been all over the websites that you will be making your title
defense against Corey Spinks, has the fight been signed and sealed?
K9 Bundrage: It has not be signed. We have to get a better fight than what they are
talking about, I have not signed anything just yet. it is not signed,
but it is going to happen.
BH: So they need to sweeten the pot a bit?
K9: It
is a go, we just do not know for sure when it is going to go because
the contract has not been signed jst yet. Well, our contract has not
been signed, the contract has been signed with them, but not us yet. Don
King and my manager agreed to go ahead and say that the fight has been
set.
BH: You have been on the shelf for a while...
K9: (Breaks into question)
I do not look at it as being on the shelf, I look at it more like being
on vacation. On the shelf sounds bad, but I am excited to be looking at
being a free agent. I am in a two fight contract with Don King so he
has not been real quick to fight me, because I only have one fight left
and then no more contract. So I guess I can see why he did not fight me,
but if he would have treated me better we could have probably of did
some business. You cannot cheat a person and expect them to do some
business with you.
BH: So you are saying this will be your last fight under the Don King banner?
K9: You
know what, you never know, I heard money talks and other stuff walks so
you never know what can happen. I just know as of right now it doesn't
look good with me fighting once a year. Don King is my promoter, Emanuel
Steward is my manager, so as my promoter, this is Don King, people know
who I am because I was on "The Contender" as well as a world champion.
You would think with Don King that was going to seal the deal, my name
was going to be bigger than Mayweather's with King on my side. We signed
with Don king for nothing, people thinks I signed with Don King for
something, I was Spink's mandatory, we signed for free. So I want people
to know to not be mad at me it is not my fault.
BH: We
know that money talks and BS walks, but honestly, if Don King is not
giving you the fights that you want or need, then the money is not worth
it, you cannot make money if you are not fighting.
K9: I see your point, but anything can happen. I am not going to say bad things about Don King, I just want to fight.
BH: You already defeated Spinks once, will you attack the fight the way you did before?
K9: I
look for him to run, because he tried to fight me the first time and it
did not work, so most likely he is going to try to move, I do not see
him trying to fight me. You never know. There is no telling what he will
do this time. it is all about Jesus, I am the champ, not Corey Spinks.
BH: Anything in closing?
K9: Check
me out on my Twitter@K9Boxing page, look forward to seeing me in the
ring defending my belt, thanks for this interview Doghouse Boxing. I
respect Corey, he is a good fighter, I respect him, he is a former world
champion, so may the best man win.
