June
2 on Showtime, the undefeated middleweight contender “Kid Chocolate”
Peter Quillin 26-0 (20) will take on his toughest test to date when he
steps in with former champion Ronald “Winky” Wright 51-5-1 (25). The
undefeated one had alot to say concerning his upcoming match-up, and in
this candid interview which aired live on Big Dog Radio, Quillin speaks
out on his career, Winky Wright and more, enjoy.
Benny Henderson Jr.:
You are slated to take on former champion Winky Wright, to me he appears
to be your toughest test to date, would you agree, and go on a little
further and give the fans your thoughts on that match-up.
Peter Quillin: Every fight that I have gotten ready for at that time was the biggest
fight of my career, so I am getting ready for Winky Wright and yes this
is my biggest fight on paper. This guy here is the real deal, I am not
sure which Winky Wright will show up, maybe he will be the twenty-one
year old Winky Wright, or the forty-one year old Winky Wright. Whatever
the case, I am ready for both. The most important thing is that I am
training and during training I almost die, and when we fight I am going
to live, I am going to show you guys how hard I am going to live.
BH:
Winky Wright has just about as many knock outs on his resume, than you
have career fights. But we are looking at a guy who has not fought since
2009, closing with two losses, with his last win coming in 2006. What
are your thoughts on Winky Wright making his way back to the ring, with
the long lay off and fighting you of all people?
PQ: I really cannot say, I do not know where he is in his life, I cannot say
if I was around his age if I still wanted to be a boxer, I am not sure I
am not there yet. All I know that is important, is that I hit the gym
everyday, and by means I am going to be ready for Winky Wright. I am
going to get revenge, Wright beat Trinidad, Trinidad was one of my
favorite fighters to watch when I was growing up. I was real angry when
Trinidad got beat by Winky, so this is something that I can give back to
all of Tito’s fans. I want to go in there and destroy Winky Wright for
beating Trinidad. It gives me that extra spark to fight this fight and
take it to the next level. I am taking Winky Wright to Pluto!
BH:
What have your fans/supporters been saying about this upcoming bout against Winky Wright?
PQ:
They say Pete, you gotta tear him up, you have to be on animal status,
you have to take Winky Wright to Pluto. And I am going to take him
there, he wants to go be on another planet, well I am going to take him
there. Winky Wright is looking for a tune up fight, and I am definitely
not a tune up fight! If anything I am going to tune his ass up! Tune in
June 2nd to Showtime and you are going to see exactly what kind of tune
up I am. My fans have been very supportive of me, they know I am in the
gym, they know I am working hard. I am on the cusp of being a well known
and I think it is going to start with Winky Wright. I am not saying
that Winky is going to give me stardom, but it will put me on the right
track.
BH:
What strengths do you feel Wright has that could pose a problem, and what weaknesses do you see that you can capitalize on?
PQ:Winky Wright has a big heart, he has a lot of skills, but I think his
heart is going to get him in trouble in this fight, because I am not a
walk in the park. My keys to victory is to keep doing what I do, and
that is go to the gym and work hard, so when we fight I will already
know what he is going to try to do in the ring. I tell you right now
that Winky is going to have to change his name from Winky Wright to Open
Your Eyes Wright because I am going to put leather on his ass and be on
him from round one to the end. I am prepared for whatever. That’s my
keys to victory, I am ready to bust out ten rounds right now! This man
is going to Pluto!
