Robert Guerrero Interview: The Ghost Reappears!
By Benny Henderson Jr. (April 28, 2010) Doghouse Boxing
This Friday night from the Tropicana Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV, the three time world champion Robert Guerrero 25-1-1 (17) returns to the ring as he takes on former contender Roberto David Arrieta 35-15-4 (17) in a scheduled ten round lightweight bout.

Guerrero, who earned the IBF featherweight and super featherweight titles, relinquished his strap in February as well as with drawing from a bout against Michael Katsidis to be his wife Casey’s side who is battling leukemia.

But now the Ghost reappears and is ready to wage war debuting at the lightweight division, and in this exclusive interview, Guerrero speaks out on his upcoming bout and career, enjoy.

Benny Henderson Jr. : First things first, how is the health of your wife?

Robert Guerrero:
She’s doing a lot better. I’m happy that she’s able to see the kids. The bone marrow transplant has been a success so far. I’m praying everyday that she continues to get better.

BH: How hard of a decision was it to relinquish your title to be by your wife’s side?

RG:
It wasn’t a tough decision. That’s my wife and nothing would have kept me from being by her side. It was crucial that I was there for her. Leaving to camp to fight Katsidis was the last thing on my mind. I know if I continue to win, my management and promotional teams will get me that big fight.

BH: You will be taking on Robert Arrieta, what do you know about your upcoming opponent?

RG:
He’s a tough fighter. He’s went the distance with some good fighters and I know he’s coming to fight. I’ll be ready.

BH: How many fights do you think it will take to regain your title?

RG:
God willing everything goes well on April 30th, I’ll be ready to fight any of the champions in the lightweight division. The winner of Marquez vs Diaz would be nice.

BH: How hard is it to stay focused on your fight with so much going on around you?

RG:
I lean on the Lord Jesus Christ for everything. My faith keeps me strong. I love what I do, so training in the gym for fights is where I’m most comfortable. With my wife getting better, I’m able to get back to business.

BH: What kind of fight are you expecting out of Robert Arrieta?

RG:
I expect him to come strong with everything. He’s coming to win and I have to shut him down.

BH: Anything message you would like to send out to your upcoming opponent?

RG:
I’ll do my talking with my hands come fight night.

BH: Anything in closing?

RG:
Words can’t describe how happy I am to be back in the ring. I’m also raising money for Leukemia research in the “Man of the Year” fundraising campaign. Please join me in my quest to cure Leukemia by contributing a donation to the cause. Thank you and God bless.
