It was recently announced that the undefeated 140-pound WBO title holder Timothy Bradley 24-0 (11) will defend his strap against the hard hitting Nate Campbell 33-5-1 (25) August 1st in Bradley’s home state of California. Bradley, who is coming off an exciting unanimous decision victory Kendal Holt this past April.
Timothy wants the best in the division, and with Nate, Tim is going to have a tough fight ahead of him, and in part one of this exclusive interview Timothy talks about the recently announced title fight, enjoy.
Benny Henderson Jr.: Thanks for coming back to Doghouse Boxing again, it was just announced that you will be fighting Nate Campbell on your home turf, your thoughts?
Timothy Bradley: It is an amazing feeling and a dream come true, I have always been asking my promoters for hometown fights. Every since I won a world title people have been asking me when I would be fighting here locally. Now having to world titles I am finally going to be able to have one in my back yard. I live five minutes away from the venue and it just feels awesome. I am excited, the fans are excited, the city will be backing me up.
BH: Fighting in your hometown could go two ways for a fighter, either it could add pressure or overwhelm the fighter. Just thinking of fighting in your hometown, which is it for you?
TB: For me it is just about the fight, the fans want me there, it doesn’t bother me, fighting on my home turf bumps me up. I will not get out of character I will
stick to the game plan. The fans will be there for me, you may see two Nate Campbell fans.
BH: Nate Campbell is a hard hitter, a good solid fighter in my opinion, what are your thoughts on Nate?
TB: He is tough, everybody is afraid of him, he is probably one of the most feared fighters out there in the game. A lot of fighters shy away from him because he is too much of a risk with little money, he is a star in the division but not a superstar. Like I told you, I want to fight the best fighters out there in the game, to me Nate Campbell is one of the best lightweights in the division. He proved that by beating Juan Diaz and he has proven himself. He is a tremendous fighter, he isn’t shy and doesn’t back down from nobody. It is going to be a very exciting fight for the fans because I am determined as well as he, he knows a lot of tricks of the trade. I just want to show everybody that I will not duck any fighter, I want the best in the world.
BH: We know that Nate is a very strong fighter, but what about his weaknesses that you can capitalize on?
TB: There is really no weaknesses in Nate, I seen him get careless a few times and get knocked out, but, other than that Nate can box, he can bang, he can fight dirty, Nate can do it all in the ring. There are really no weaknesses. The thing that I am going to have to do, I am going to have to use my speed and youth and wear him out, just wear him out and eventually take it to him in the later rounds. It will be tough in the beginning, but I just feel that he is near the end of his career after watching the Funeka fight over and over again and how he faded in the fight. I feel that I will be bale to out last him. I need to be careful in the beginning, but he will get tired and that is when I will put it on.
