Paulie Malignaggi Interview Part Two: “Ricky Hatton is not even going to come close to winning this fight!”
Interview By Benny Henderson Jr., DoghouseBoxing (Oct 22, 2008) DoghouseBoxing.com Part One

One thing about former 140-pound IBF champion Paulie Malignaggi 25-1 (5) is that he can sell a fight. But come fight night November 22nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV, the “Magic Man” is looking to buy Ricky Hatton 44-1 (31) a one way ticket to retirement as the two once-beaten fighters clash in a highly anticipated twelve round junior welterweight match-up, to be televised on HBO 10 PM ET/7 PM PT.

Malignaggi and Hatton have a few things in common. They both only have on loss on their
respective resumes, the two have both defeated creditable foes, and both are former world title holders. But the one thing that separates them is their fighting styles and this is what makes their clash so intriguing.

In part two of this exclusive interview conducted by Doghouse Boxing, Malignaggi continues with his thoughts and opinions on his upcoming bout against Ricky Hatton, enjoy.

BH: What impact do you feel that Floyd Mayweather Sr. will have on Hatton’s training and approach to this fight?

PM:
Not much, he may improve on some things, but the time he has I don’t know what he can be taught. Floyd Mayweather Sr. is a better trainer with somebody with speed, Ricky Hatton really doesn’t have those qualities. Maybe some of the things he has learned will work on a couple of sparring partners, but they do not work on Paulie Malignaggi, he is fighting a world class fighter, when you are fighting the best there is not time to experiment with things you have just learned.

BH: How has your training been for this upcoming bout?

PM:
Training has been going well, we have been working really hard. I am putting in the hard work because in the end it is going to pay off.

BH: What type of fight are you expecting between you and Hatton?

PM:
I am not going to go in there expecting anything, I know he likes to be rough and tumble and is working on some new things, I may see a side I have never seen of him before, but I am prepared for everything. We will be ready for anything, when I look my best no 140-pounder in the world can play with me, we are getting sharp that no matter what he does or learned he is not going to come close to winning this fight.

BH: If you could send out a message to Ricky before the fight using Doghouse Boxing as a platform, what would you say?

PM:
The message is be prepared to get beat again, much respect for him coming back to the scene of the crime after being knocked out last year. He was looking up at the ceiling last year, and if he is not looking up at the ceiling again this year, he will definitely be on the losing end of a decision.

BH: Anything in closing my brother?

PM:
I just want to thank my fans, and people that has been with me from the start. It is easy to jump on the bandwagon now and it is going to be even easier to jump on the bandwagon after I beat Ricky Hatton.
