Walker, who resides out of Houston, TX, has been calling for the Arreola fight, and come Saturday night, the
“Freight Train” will have his shot at derailing “The Nightmare”, in what should be a very exciting heavyweight match-up.
In this exclusive interview conduced by Doghouse Boxing, Walker speaks out on his upcoming match-up and demands that the fight fans can expect a fight! Enjoy.
Benny Henderson Jr.: Well brother, you have been calling for the Chris Arreola fight, and the fight you have been wanting is now just days away, how are you feeling going into this bout?
Travis Walker: I am feeling great, very confident. I am loving the fact that I am such an underdog, it has really boasted my confidence up. It has made me work and train harder. And I am going to fight harder.
BH: You will be fighting Chris pretty much on his home turf, if the fight is close on the cards, could that be a concern?
TW: Yes, it could definitely be a concern, but I don’t think it is going to be close, I think I will get him out of there before it goes to the cards.
BH: Looking at Arreola, as far as his style, strengths and weaknesses go, what are your thoughts on Chris, and how do you approach this fight?
TW: I think he is going to come to fight, he throws a lot of punches. I think with Chris all you need is a basic game plan, you don’t have to do anything special, just be good at the basics, and I think I am good at the basics.
BH: Chris and yourself have a similar record, with just a few fights off, and he still being unbeaten. But for the most part it is pretty close. So besides the record, what other similarities do you both share as well as what separates you two?
TW: We are both big heavyweights, our fight styles are totally different. He is a counter puncher and I am a puncher.
BH: Where do you feel Travis Walker fits in the heavyweight division?
TW: I think I have a real good spot, they need a real good American heavyweight who hits hard, and that’s me all day. I think this chance here with Chris is going to give me a great spot.
BH: What type of fight are you expecting from Chris?
TW: He looks to same to me, he comes forward and throws a lot of punches. So I have to keep doubling up my jab and every time he comes in I have to drop that bomb on him. I really don’t think he can take a good shot, he has a target and I am going to hit that target a whole bunch of times. And that is that nose.
BH: What can the fight fans expect from Travis Walker come fight night?
TW: Me to come ready to fight, me to push the fight, they can expect me to fight, they can expect a fight.
BH: Any message you would like to send out to Chris using Doghouse as a platform?
TW: Nah, not really, just come ready.
