Tony Thompson: “I kicked Krasniqi’s ass, and I’ll kick Klitschko’s ass too!”
Interview by Benny Henderson Jr - AKA "Big Dog" (March 31, 2008) Doghouse Boxing
It has been reported it that the WBO/IBF heavyweight title holder Wladimir Klitschko 50-3 (44) will next defend his straps against American heavyweight hopeful Tony Thompson 31-1 (19) sometime in July over in Germany. Instead of listening to the rumors Doghouse Boxing went straight to the source, the one who would know if there is such a fight scheduled, the challenger Tony Thompson.
The long time contender who lost his one and only bout in the summer of 2000 earned the right to fight
Klitschko last summer, but since then he has been placed on the backburner. So with news of a possible upcoming bout Thompson steps into the Doghouse and speaks out on the matter at hand, enjoy.
Benny Henderson Jr.: It has been reported that you are next in line for the IBF/WBO heavyweight title holder Wladimir Klitschko, sometime in July over in Germany, is there any truth to that?
Tony Thompson: It is a rumor until they give it to me man, I couldn’t really tell you until they get it to me, it is a rumor.
BH: So nothing has been signed?
TT: I heard it was in play but nothing yet. You know boxing as well as I do, so that is all I can tell you.
BH: You don’t have a problem with going back to Germany?
TT: No, I went to Germany and kicked Krasniqi’s ass, I’ll go over there and kick Klitschko’s ass too.
BH: What will you do differently in the fight against Klitschko than his last eight opponents?
TT: I am going to fight his ass, I am not going to stand back and be all petrified. I am going in there street fighting, it is going to be a good fight. One of us is going to go, I am not going to set back and let him pummel me, and I am going to make it a fight to be heavyweight champion of the world.
BH: Well, since it is not a done deal yet, what would you like to say to persuade them to make the fight?
TT: I think it is going to make a great heavyweight fight, Klitschko is a good fighter but you will not see the best of Klitschko until you see the best of his opponents. You will see the best of Tony Thompson, so you better see the best of Klitschko.
I would like to thank Tony Thompson for taking the time out to answer a few questions for the Doghouse readers.
