Chad Dawson
Coming up this Saturday night, September 8th, to be televised live on HBO 9:45 PM ET/PT, the former light heavyweight title holder, Chad Dawson 31-1 (17), jumps down in weight for hopes of being the first man to defeat the unbeaten super middleweight champion Andre Ward 25-0 (13), garnering the WBC & WBA titles while making a jump; up the P4P rankings.

Dawson's only loss came in 2010 from the hands of Jean Pascal, via an eleventh round heartbreaking technical decision. After back to back bouts with the future Hall of Famer, Bernard Hopkins, the first ruled a No Contest, the second being a Majority Decision in favor of Dawson, ‘Bad’ Chad has his eyes set on Oakland’s very own Andre Ward, and although Dawson had to jump down a weight class to get the fight, the thirty year old Dawson feels his size, and will to win, will be to much for Ward to handle.

In this exclusive interview conducted by Doghouse Boxing, we get the thoughts on Chad Dawson, as he speaks out on the weight loss, a game plan, fighting in Ward’s hometown and much more. Enjoy!

Benny Henderson Jr.: How has the preparation been for the upcoming Ward fight?

Chad Dawson:
Everything has been going great.  We just finished up the final week of sparring and I’m ready to go.  Scully and I got our game plan intact and the fight will be one the fans will remember.

BH: Sizing the two of you up, how do you feel you match up with a smaller, yet seemingly faster Ward?

CD:
I know I have the advantage in height and reach as I am the taller man so his speed will be negated.  Since I’m coming down in weight everyone is saying he will have the advantage in strength but I believe the opposite, because I’m already on weight with a week to go and I’m feeling stronger than ever.

BH: What do you feel will be the keys to securing a victory over Ward?

CD:
I’m not going to give up my game plan but let’s just say my belief in myself and my will to win will secure a victory for me.  I’m the underdog for whatever reason and I’m using that as motivation to prove everyone wrong.

BH: You are basically fighting Ward in his living room, do you fear the fight going to the score cards?

CD:
No, not at all.  I have faith that the judges will be fair.  My job is to go out there and win the fight decisively. That is my goal.  If I get the knockout then that will be icing on the cake.

BH: Is there any message you would like to send out to Andre Ward, as well as the entire fight world concerning Chad Dawson?

CD:
Andre Ward I know you’re a great fighter but on September 8th I’m going to take your titles and march up the pound for pound rankings.  To all my fans out there, I thank you for the support.  This is going to be an exciting fight and everyone should tune in on HBO.
