THE PURPOSE: I don't think any one fight can be made in boxing today, that alone, is worth the price of a PPV. Unless of course, they can conjure up Dempsey vs Marciano or Joe Louis, but until that day comes, I want some quantity to go along with quality!

I say, if they want us to shell out 30, 40 sometimes 50 bucks per PPV, they should give us some bang for our buck! The card should be solid from top to bottom! Or at least it should be so top heavy with excellent fights that they can get away with a showcase fight to kick off the festivities, but these 2 or 3 showcase fights and 1 decent to mega main event PPV's are for the birds! (My apologies to any of the birds I may have offended with that statement.)

SO HERE'S MY SYSTEM:

I preview and rate every fight that is scheduled to be televised on a PPV Boxing Card, and try to determine whether that card is worth purchasing or not based on my point system below.

Please note that at the end of each preview, I will mention what weight class the bout is being fought at and where each fighter ranks within that weight class. This is done by using "The Ring" ratings.

HERE'S HOW STEVE'S PPV CRITERIA WORKS!

POINTS:

6 = MEGA MATCHUP
5 = Excellent Matchup
4 = Good Matchup
3 = Decent Matchup
2 = OK Matchup
1 = Bad Matchup

If a fight is scheduled to be televised on the card, it gets at least 1 point. This helps to reward quantity.

POINT SYSTEM:

14 or higher = GET IT!

13 = If you can find someone to split it with you or the price of the PPV is 24.99 or less, GET IT!

12 = If you can find someone to split it with you or the price of the PPV is 19.99 or less CONSIDER getting it.

11 = If you can find a place that is showing it, or get enough people over to split it with you, so that you are not paying more than 10 dollars for the card, CONSIDER getting it.

10 or under = Save your money and sleep well at night knowing you didn't get ripped off!

AND AWAY WE GO!

January 27th – PPV PRICE: $24.95
.
VIRGIL HILL (49-5 23KO's) vs VALERY BRUDOV (30-0 23 KO's):

This will be the aging Hill's first fight back since retiring in 2004. Brudov is a major question mark. He has a pretty record, however it was compiled against no hopers. An aging vet coming off of two year hiatus versus a fighter taking a huge step up in competition. Who knows? But Hill was never known for being in entertaining fights.

*This fight will take place at Cruiserweight (200lbs) – Neither fighter is rated*

SCORE = 2

STEVIE JOHNSTON (37-3-1 17 KO's) vs STEVE QUINONEZ (31-9 10 KO's):

After two years off, Stevie ‘Lil But Bad’ Johnston continues his comeback. He had no problems in his first two comeback bouts and now takes a on a slightly stiffer challenger in Quinonez. Before knocking James Armah from the ranks of the undefeated in his last bout, Quinonez had lost three fights in a row, all by split decision to Stevie Forbes, Adrian Mora and Michael Clark. Quinonez does hold solid victories over Lovemore N'dou and Juan Valenzuela. This should be a good workout for Johnston.

*This fight will take place at Jr Welterweight (140lbs) – Neither fighter is rated*

SCORE = 2

MIKE ARNAOUTIS (15-0 7KO's) vs MARC THOMPSON (14-0 12KO's):

Arnaoutis is tough, game young Jr Welterweight who continues to stay active. Marc Thompson has a nice looking record but the majority of his wins are against fighters with .500 records or worse. It's definitely time to step up the competition for him and we should find out if he's for real or not against Arnaoutis. If he is for real, we may get a decent fight here. If he's not, it could be a white wash.

*This fight will take place at Jr Welterweight (140lbs) – Neither fighter is rated*

SCORE = 2

PRINCE BADI AJAMU (24-2-1 13 KO's) vs GALEN BROWN (22-3-1 15 KO's):

To be quite frank, two so-so light heavy's in a so-so matchup. That says it all.

*This fight will take place at Light Heavyweight (175lbs) - Neither fighter is rated*

SCORE = 2

FINAL SCORE = 8

SUMMARY: This would be a nice card for ESPN2 Friday Night Fights. Now you tell me, would you pay 24.95 to watch ESPN2 Friday Night Fights? Neither would I.
