Back in the ring for only the third time since 2010, former super middleweight contender Andre Dirrell (22-1, 15 KOs) stopped overmatched Vladine Biosse (15-5-2, 7 KOs) in round five at The Little Creek Casino Resort in Shelton, Washington.
The bout was the co-feature on ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights.”
Dirrell, working out of the southpaw stance, took it to Biosse immediately in the opening rounds. He snapped off a triple jab and landed a sharp combination. Biosse, also a southpaw, tried to work his way under the long arms of his opponent.
His attempts were unsuccessful. Dirrell backed him into the ropes and unleashed a combination of blows.
Dirrell, 30, effortlessly switched to orthodox in round three. His long jab stung Boisse at every turn.
Boisse, fighting for the second time in three weeks, looked lost. Dirrell was bigger, faster and younger.
In rounds four and five, Dirrell boxed with purpose. Boisse, a former college football player, showed his tackling ability by driving Dirrell to the canvas. Dirrrell ignored the tackle and punished Boisse some more.
A long left wobbled Boisse at the bell.
Dirrell continued to dominate in the next stanza. Boisse, 32, tried to make something happen on the inside, but Dirrell, infinitely more talented, punched him from pillar to post until the referee waved off the contest.
The time was 2:46 of round five.
Boisse has now lost three of his last four bouts.
“I usually come to a fight nervous, iffy and not in a disconcerting way but in an anxious way, an overzealous way and ready to see what I got way," Dirrell said in the ring after the fight. “But today I felt comfortable ever since I walked into the arena.”
Dirrell’s only loss was to Carl Froch by split decision in 2009.
He wants a rematch.
"My first target in all honesty, in all truth, is Carl Froch,” said Dirrell.”I don't know how long it's going to take, but I told Al (Haymon), it's unrealistic, but if I could get in there today, I could beat Carl Froch."
