By John J. Raspanti, Doghouse Boxing:
Kelly Pavlik was last seen in a boxing ring 10 months ago. His shaky
victory over Alfonso Lopez was hardly impressive. Pavlik was hoping to
show the boxing community that he was back and ready for another shot at
the man who took his crown, Sergio Martinez.
Last December saw
Pavlik arrested for driving while drunk. Before that, he had walked away
from a fight (and rehab) angering his long-time promoter Bob Arum.
Having
reconciled with Arum and hired a new trainer (Robert Garcia) Pavlik
(37-2, 32 KOs) returns to the ring wars tonight against one Aaron Jaco
(15-2, 5 KOs ). The venue is the Illusions Theater at the Alamodome in
Texas .
“Kelly has been working very hard at his training camp in
Oxnard , California and hopefully this will be the beginning of his
re-emergence into boxing at the top level,” said Arum.
The bout is a 10-rounder at a catch weight of 170 pounds. Pavlik is keeping his options open in regards to weight.
Trainer Robert Garcia likes what he see's in Pavlik.
“Kelly is ready. He is strong, and he wants to get back into the ring to compete." Garcia said.
Pavlik is also excited.
"I
am revitalizing my boxing career," he said at Thursday's media workout.
"This is my second chance, probably my last chance, really."
