By John J. Raspanti, Doghouse Boxing: Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao opened his training camp a few days
ago for his June title defense against contender Timothy Bradley, saying
he has God in his corner.
Some boxing people feel that Pacquiao's new found Christianity could hinder his explosiveness. Pacquiao disagrees.
"Nothing
has changed. I am still fully focused on training although now I am
happier because I have God," he told reporters in the northern mountain
resort of Baguio.
Pacquiao (54-3, 38 KOs) will be defending
his WBO welterweight championship against the undefeated Bradley on June
9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Bradley (29-0, 12 KOs) is a rugged
fighter with a strong inside game. He stopped Joel Casamayor in round 11
last November.
"I talk winning. I go into the ring and win,” Bradley said.
The
33-year-old Pacquiao announced in January that his partying and
gambling days were over. Pacquiao said God had chosen him to spread the
Christian message. The Philippine icon’s last loss was seven years ago
to Eric Morales. He has since won fifteen fights in a row, including
redemption in defeating Morales twice. Pacquiao is an eight-division
world champion.
