All three judges had McDonnell winning comfortably by scores of 116-111, 115-112 and 117-110. The decision did not please the ringside patrons. Maxboxing.com and Doghouseboxing had Kameda the winner by a 114-113 tally. McDonnell won the title from Kameda four months ago in Texas by the slimmest of margins. Sunday’s rematch was supposed to have settled the argument on who’s the better boxer. McDonnell, the taller fighter by three inches, used his long jab in the opening stanza. The quicker Kameda moved side-to-side and connected with a left hook. He also landed combinations to the head and body. Kameda did well in rounds two and three by using a variety of punches. McDonnell (27-2-1, 12 KOs) found Kameda (31-2, 19 KOs) with a stinging right hand. Kameda countered with another left hook. McDonnell, 29, upped his aggressiveness in rounds four and five. A good right connected on the moving Kameda. His jab bounced off Kameda’s chin a number of times. McDonnell was busier, but Kameda was more accurate. Kameda fought back with a lead right hand. McDonnell landed his own right, but ate a three-punch combo in return. McDonnell brought more heat in rounds six and seven. He pursued Kameda and let his hands go. A couple of hard combinations jolted Kameda. The 24-year-old former champion landed a heavy shot to the midsection. McDonnell continued to work hard in the last four rounds. The faster Kameda moved his head and fired flashy combinations. McDonnell was the still the busier man, but Kameda was hanging tough. The fighters traded sharp blows in round 10. McDonnell’s jab was working overtime. Kameda battled back in round 11, but McDonnell sealed the fight in the eyes of many by flooring Kameda (more a slip actually) in the 12th and final round. "I didn't think it was a controversial decision," McDonnell said after the fight. "I always felt like I was control and won the fight comfortably."
