Jesse Reid Sounds Off on Malik Scott vs Glazkov Draw!

Saturday night at the Paramount Theatre in Huntingdon, NY, 32 year old (pro since 2000) Philadelphia’s Malik Scott, 35-0-1 (12), now living in CA for the past 6 years, got what he would have expected if he fought the 28 year old (pro since 2009) Vyacheslav Glazkov, 14-0-1 (10), of Lugansk, UKR, now from NJ, in the Ukraine after winning 8 out of 10 rounds (on judge John Poturaj’s card), a draw! Since it happened in the US it’s another black eye in boxing! NJ judge Poturaj saw it 98-92 for Scott while the two NY judges, Julie Lederman, 95-95 and John McKaie 96-94 for Glazkov didn’t feel Scott won the fight.

This writer got a call back from Scott’s trainer Jesse Reid who is a class act Sunday night and a trainer of 23 world champions looking for Scott to be his 24th. “He (Scott) did what he had to do. In the 8th round I told him to take him (Glazkov) out. He’s ready to go and you never know about how the judges will score this fight. I only gave Glazkov a round. Malik fought a great fight. It was 8 times the camera came into our corner giving us great coverage. I told him (Scott) you’re an American show him what you can do!” Reid is a no-nonsense trainer who walked out on Mike Tyson after one day not putting up with the nonsense and refusing to “come along for the ride” that Tyson offered. It’s not about the money with Reid. “He gave him a boxing lesson,” said Reid.

“The guy (Glazkov) had a lot of will but Malik was too strong. His corner came over to me and asked me to train 3 of their Russians,” said Reid. I asked if he would go to Russia and he remarked “I don’t leave Burbank. They come to me.” Asked if Scott needed a couple more fights before challenging the Klitschko’s he said “hope we get a shot but doubt they want to fight him (Scott)”.

Reid is straight to the point and though appreciating the coverage Scott got he felt he deserved the decision and was not happy with Lederman and McKaie’s scores. Writer and editor John DiSanto of had it 98-92 for Scott who viewed it after attending a Peltz Boxing show in Atlantic City.

Prior to the fight in an interview with Scott he said “I can’t believe they are putting a guy with 14 fights in with me.” Scott was an amateur champion and an Olympic alternate in 2000 while Glazkov was an amateur champion and an Olympian in 2008. Whether there will be a re-match or not only the promoter Main Events who promotes Glazkov knows but I wouldn’t be looking for it at this time. Glazkov needs more seasoning and Scott should be ready before the year is out to challenge the Klitschko brothers!
