Philly light middleweight Julian “J-Rock” Williams, 15-0-1 (9) scored a 3rd round knockout at 0:35 over Freddy “El Riel” Hernandez, 30-7 (20), of Mexico City, MEX, Monday night!
This was the main event on USA Fox Sports 1 at the House of Blues, in Boston, Massachusetts, promoted by Golden Boy Promotions. Williams didn’t waste any time as the fighters met in the middle of the ring after the opening bell when Williams slipped a right from Fernandez and landed a straight right to the chin putting Fernandez down.
Williams showed good composure not rushing Fernandez while controlling the action the rest of the round.
In the second round already Fernandez was showing some redness around his right eye. In the third and final round Williams missed a right hand but was able to take a half step to his right with Fernandez ducking and leaving himself wide open for a short left hook to the left side of his temple and down Fernandez went for the second time in the fight only to be counted out by referee Leo Gerstel.
“I wanted to do better than his last opponent who stopped him did and knock him out faster,” said Williams. That would have been Delvin Rodriguez who did it in 8 rounds several fights ago. Williams is the No. 10 contender in the USBA ratings.
This was the first time he was counted out with the other 2 times being technical stoppages including a WBC world title fight with Andre Berto. It was a St. Patrick’s night in Boston celebration for the unbeaten Philly fighter and his manager/trainer Stephen “Breadman” Edwards who want to be in the title picture by the end of the year.
