Monday night “Meet the Champs” was held at the Landshark Bar and Grill on the Atlantic City boardwalk across from Resorts Casino. This was being held as part of the 31st IBF Convention. This writer was invited to attend and did so as the former champions and local boxers were there along with other officials.
IBF President Daryl Peoples was at the helm as former world champions joined him to say a word. There was cruiserweight’s Steve “USS” Cunningham, Dwight Muhammad Qawi, heavyweight’s Bruce “Atlantic City Express” Seldon, Chris Byrd, welterweight Meldrick Taylor, super middleweight Charles “The Hatchet” Brewer and local boxers Isiah Seldon and Osnel Charles. Officials Steve “Double S” Smoger, Benjy Esteves, Jr. Randy Neumann, Rick Vera, Eddie Cotton, Rick Steigerwald, Julie Lederman, Steve Weisfeld, Rose Varga, Jean Williams, George Hill and Christoph Jan Jaszczuk of Germany to name a few.
Also in attendance were Ratings Chairman Anibal Miramontes and Jeanette Salazar who greeted this writer and others as they entered.
All in all it was a packed house as I talked to officials from DC to TX.
