On Thursday night at the House of Blues in Boston Philly’s Tevin “American Idol” Farmer, 16-4-1 (3) easily defeated No. 14 WBC contender PR Emanuel “Manny” Gonzalez, 14-1 (7), out of the Bronx, NY, over 10 rounds in the Fox Sports 1 main event. A GB promotion.
In the opening round Farmer out boxed Gonzalez who was hitting behind the head and leaning on the shorter Farmer without any warning from the ref. This set the stage for Gonzalez the rest of the way. Just before the end of the round Farmer landed a lead left to the chin. In the 2nd round a pair of lead lefts to the chin had Gonzalez clinching. Farmer continued to land straight lefts to the head of Santos who looked frustrated.
A good straight left from Farmer ended the round. Gonzalez has had little competition up until now and meeting someone with the style of Farmer has him complaining and holding.
In the 3rd round Santos tried tackling Farmer pushing him across the ring and the ref warned Farmer without cause. Farmer continued using his speed to out land Gonzalez. In the 4th round Farmer landed more lefts to the face of Gonzalez who was finally warned for a low blow. Farmer counter’s the incoming Gonzalez. When Gonzalez tries roughing up Farmer he gets spun around and missed so bad he ended up hitting the ropes while Farmer moved several feet away from him.
In the 5th round Farmer lands a right hook to the body of Gonzalez and keeps hitting him with the lead left at will. Gonzalez continues to hold when he gets close to Farmer who continues to frustrate him. Farmer has dominated all 5 rounds of this 10 round junior lightweight bout.
In the 6th round Farmer lands several left hands to the head and out of a clinch the ref warns Farmer for what who knows. Gonzalez lands several punches to the body of Farmer and tries pushing him down and for some reason the ref warns Farmer. Farmer ends the round with another straight left to the face of Gonzalez whose left eye has swelling around it.
In the 7th round Farmer lands a good right hook to the side of the head of Gonzalez. On the break Gonzalez hits Farmer and gets a warning. He apologizes to Farmer touching gloves. Gonzalez continues to show his frustration trying to land the jab but Farmer is very elusive landing a pair of good body punches. Gonzalez complains of a low blow which is at best questionable. Farmer ends the round dancing and landing a combination.
In the 8th round Farmer jabs and follows with a pair of lefts all to the head of Gonzalez. At the bell Gonzalez falls to the canvas and in getting up pushes the ref to who reprimands him. In the 9th round Gonzalez lands his first combination of the fight. Gonzalez continues to follow Farmer around the ring and gets frustrated missing time and again. It was probably the first round was somewhat competitive. His left eye was close to closing.
In the 10th and final round Gonzalez tries lying on Farmer who spins out of it. Inside Farmer lands a good combination to the body of Gonzalez who continues to grab Farmer knowing he needs a knockout but his frustration of not being in with anyone like the slick Philly boxer continues to try rough tactics. Farmer spins away from the oncoming Gonzalez who ends up into the ropes as Farmer taps him on the butt. Farmer ends up left handing Gonzalez again at the bell. Farmer’s corner of Chino Rivas and Rashiem Jefferson jump into the ring as Farmer goes from one corner to the other up on the ropes celebrating to the fans.
Seems Farmer won no fewer than 9 rounds if not all 10. It was a really good first 10 rounder for Philly’s Farmer. Scores of 100-90, 99-91 and 98-92 with DHB 100-90 were all for the winner Tevin “American Idol” Farmer.
