Philly’s top junior middleweight Julian “J-Rock” Williams, 16-0-1 (10) continues on his way to a world title in 2015 taking on unbeaten Eliezer Gonzalez, 14-0 (9), of Cupey Alto, PR, over 10 rounds at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV, Thursday night over Fox Sports 1.
The trainer of Williams Stephen Edwards was quite impressed with his fighter’s last fight in May stopping Michael Medina, 26-4-2, in 8 rounds in Canada. Gonzalez has not yet to meet anyone as tough as Williams and he will find that out in the first round.
Williams is ranked No. 3 by the NABF and No. 7 by the USBA and will be in this third fight of the year. It’s the hope of his fan’s he will break into the IBF and WBC rankings early in 2015 with 20 fights under his belt and in the next 15 months a title bout at IBF champ Carlos Molina. A bout with No. 15 Charles Bellamy would put him into the rankings followed by a bout with IBF No. 7 contender Ishe Smith would be a good way to break into the top 10. A re-match with Hugo Centeno, Jr., 20-0 (11) would be a welcome fight. He won the first 3 rounds on all judges score’s before a clash of heads gave Centeno an out.
Williams fellow boxers from James Shuler’s Memorial Gym in West Philly run by Buster Custus will be watching along with many fan’s from Philly wanting to see Williams return to the Philly-Atlantic City area in the near future. He’s managed by Al Haymon.
