In June of 2012 when Manny Pacquaio seemed to easily defend his WBO welterweight title against Timothy Bradley, Duane Ford and C (Cynthia). J. Ross had Bradley the winner 115-113. Even many of the Bradley fans couldn’t believe they gave him the fight.

On Saturday night the Las Vegas resident scored the Floyd Mayweather and Saul Canelo fight 114-114 a draw. Dave Moretti had it 118-112 and Craig Metcalfe 117-111 in favor of Mayweather. This writer had it a 120-108 for Mayweather and I am no fan of the unbeaten champion. Only in 3 rounds did Canelo seem to make it competitive. It’s only the second time in 45 fights that Mayweather had anything but a unanimous decision except for his split decision victory over Oscar De La Hoya in 2007.

It’s the 11th time since 2002 Ross did not agree with fellow judges on a decision. She starting judging in 1992 and disagreed on 8 occasions with her fellow judges through 2001. You may say 20 times in 21 years is not a bad record. A lot depends on the importance of the fight.

It was a night when it looked like Ishe “Sugar” Smith did enough to win his IBF light middleweight title defense only to lose by split decision to Carlos Molina who looked very surprised when it was announced “the new”. And for you “old school” fans who say a woman should not be judging a boxing match…
