Richmond, VA, heavyweight Juiseppe “Joe” Cusumano, 9-1 (7), won his seventh straight stopping Solomon Maye at the Mohegan Sun Casino, in Uncasville, CT, this past Friday night!
Legendary matchmaker Don Elbaum serves as an advisor for the twenty-six year old Cusumano. His manager is Philadelphia lawyer Andy Touchstone of Touchstone & Associcates, P.C.
Cusumano turned professional in Virginia in August of 2010 and hasn’t returned to his home state since. His only loss was a controversial decision loss to Daniel Martz, now 11-1-1 (8), out of Clarksburg, WV, who won the vacant NABF Junior heavyweight title in June.
“Cusumano rocked Martz in the early seconds of the 2nd round with a hard right. I don’t think Martz has a chance of going the distance with Cusumano if they met tomorrow,” said Touchstone.
In Martz’s first seven fights only Cusumano went the distance with him. He had a 40 pound weight advantage over Cusumano. It had been 17 months since Cusumano last fought when he met Martz.
Cusumano didn’t fight in 2013. “He had wrist surgery in May of 2013. He is training with Lenny DeJesus,” said Touchstone. He was off for 19 months between fights.
Half of Cusumano’s fights have been in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
He will be returning to action on October 25th at Schuetzen Park, in North Bergen, NJ, on the KEA Boxing promotion
