Every writer’s nightmare is when there are two shows running the same night in the area you cover and this Saturday (Tonight) is no exception!
With both shows on major networks one would hope to somehow squeeze both in. Not only is Main Events involved with both shows they have one of their main boxer’s former light heavy and cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek fighting in Krakow, Poland.
At Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City the main event is between Bernard “Alien” Hopkins, 55-6-2 (32) putting his WBA Super and IBF world light heavyweight titles on the line against unbeaten WBO champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev, 25-0-1 (23), risking his title over 12 rounds. This will be on USA HBO.
Promoters are Main Events and Golden Boy Promotions. The co-feature has WBC No. 2 welterweight Luis Carlos Abregu, 36-1 (29), of Argentina against WBO No. 7 Sadam “World Kid” Ali, 20-0 (12), of Brooklyn, NY, in a 10 round bout.
There will be 7 undercard fights featuring such boxers as heavyweight’s Nadib Mohammedi, 35-3 (21), of France, Vyacheslav Glazkov 18-0-1 (11), of the Ukraine, Sullivan Barrera, 13-0 (8), of Colombia and Philly’s Eric “Outlaw” Hunter, 18-3 (9).
At the Sands Casino Resort, in Bethlehem, PA, the main event is the return of heavyweight southpaw Amir “Hardcore” Mansour, 20-1 (15), of Wilmington, DE, against Fred Kassi, 18-2 (10), of New Orleans, LA, originally from Cameroon, AFR., over 10 rounds. Mansour is coming off what may be the “fight of the year” with Steve “USS” Cunningham in April. This show will be on USA NBC Sports Network promoted by Main Events, Peltz Boxing, BAM Boxing and German Titov Box Promotions.
A pair of 10 round bouts will feature Vasily “The Professor” Lepikhin, 16-0 (9), of Russia against Jackson Junior, 15-1 (13), of Brazil in a light heavyweight match. Ronald Cruz, 20-4 (15), of Bethlehem, is against Dmitry Mikhaylenko, 17-0 (6), of Russia in a welterweight match. Easton’s Arturo Trujillo, 5-0 (3) will be in a welterweight 6. There are 7 bouts on the card.
