Adrien “The Problem” Broner's record (now 27-1-1, 23 KOs) was that of an undefeated fighter until Saturday night on SHOWTIME when, after 12 rounds, Marcos Maidana defeated him with a unanimous decsion. In recent times, Broner is not the only fighter to see his "0" go.
On the first of this month, it was Paul Spadafora, 48-0-1, losing to Johan Perez for the interim WBA light welterweight title by MD at Chester, WV.
A week later, it was Indonesia’s Chris John, 48-0-3 losing for to Simpiwe Vetyeka from South Africa. John lost the WBA Super World and IBO featherweight titles in Perth, Australia, in 6 rounds.
And one week later brings us to Broner's defeat at the fists of Maidana. Three weeks in a row saw three "0's" go.
ROCKY MARCIANO’S 49-0 is still safe! Are both Argentina’s Cesar Cuenca at 46-0 and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. at 45-0 next? There’s something about getting to 48-0 and losing. Ask Larry Holmes and Darius Michalczewski who were both 48-0 when they suffered their first defeats!
On December 20th in Yemen returning to the ring is Thailand’s Samson Dutch Boy Gym, 43-0 who hasn’t fought since 2002 taking on Yemen’s Ali Raymi, 20-0 with all 1st round knockouts. Samson won the World Boxing Federation super flyweight title in his 4th fight and defended it 39 times before retiring. I would say Raymi will be the favorite.
