They say a boxer and a puncher is the best combo for a boxing match. In the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix, AZ, Friday night you will see just that. In November Jesus “El Martillo” Gonzales, 25-1 (14) returned to action in Canada after a 2 year lay-off winning his 8th straight. He will face the recent conqueror of former IBF Super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy in Philadelphia’s Dhafir “No Fear” Smith, 24-19-7 (4), who is unbeaten in his last 5 fights.

At stake will be the vacant IBF North American Super middleweight title over 10 rounds. Team Smith arrived in Phoenix on Wednesday. Working the corner will be Percy “Buster” Custus, owner of Shuler’s Gym and former IBF light middleweight champion Rob “Bam Bam” Hines.

“I’m knocking him out. He is stepping up in weight and has only fought 2 rounds in 3 years,” said Smith. The Philly super middleweight is very confident and an excellent boxer who is boldly predicting a knockout of which he only has 4 of them. He has lost his share of bad decisions since 2001 and knows he has to step up his game in his opponent’s back yard.
