George "Monk" Foreman at Hampton, VA, Saturday!

Fans in the eastern part of the country were looking forward last month to see the son of the legendary “Big” George Foreman fight in Atlantic City.  Scheduling 2 fights a week apart can catch up to you sometimes.  George “Monk” Foreman III improved his record to 11-0 with 10 knockouts but a cut prevented him from his Atlantic City appearance for Dee Lee Promotions.  “Big” George and son “Big Wheels” appeared and even had Chuck Wepner in the audience who had fought “Big” George.

“Monk” is a graduate of Rice University and at 6’5” and 236 in his last fight he certainly has the size to “learn on the job” with no amateur background.  This Saturday at the Hampton Roads Convention Center, in Hampton, VA, John P. Gagliardi will promote while Don Elbaum will serve as matchmaker for the 10 bout card featuring “Monk” against Eric Lindsey, 3-10 (1), of Shreveport, LA, in a 6 round main event.  It was 3 fights ago Lindsey was brought into Houston, where the Foreman fights out of, to meet Maurenzo Smith, 5-0 with 4 knockouts and pulled off the upset.

“Monks” 10 knockout victims never finished the 3rd round.  The one opponent who went the distance was James Johnson who went the full 6 rounds.  That was probably the best thing to happen to him getting some rounds in.

Virginia’s Jaywon Woods, 8-1-1 (5), son of former heavyweight contender Darroll Wilson, was supposed to be on the same card as “Monk” in Atlantic City but his opponent pulled out.  He will be on this card fighting for the first time in 10 months.
