You have to look far and wide (Italy?) to find two young Italian fighters fighting for a title today. Popular Diane Fischer of Dee Lee Promotions will present at Atlantic City’s Tropicana this Friday, June 4th such an event. Tony “Boom Boom” Ferrante, 9-0 (4), of North Philadelphia will defend his World Boxing Federation U.S. light heavyweight title against Chuck “The Professor” Mussachio, 15-1-2 (5), of Wildwood, NJ, originally out of South Philadelphia. This is one of those match-up’s they talk about that is finally happening.

Both fighters have good chins so it should be 10 rounds of Ferrante being the aggressor and Mussachio trying to paint him with that long jab of his. Ferrante didn’t turn professional until November of 2007 and has had four of his nine fights at the legendary Blue Horizon. He won a close split decision over Philly’s Simon “One Punch” Carr, 4-2-1, in October of 2008 and stopped Youngstown’s Anthony Pietrantonio, 6-1, there. He took a majority decision over Billy Bailey, 9-3, last July to take the WBF US title in an all out brawl. They have one common opponent in Andre Hemphill. Ferrante won a split decision in his last fight while Mussachio won a majority decision earlier in his career.

Mussachio is a former NCAA champion from Lock Haven U., who has the experience and boxing ability but Ferrante has the toughness to overcome such obstacles. It will probably come down to who fights whose fight. Mussachio turned professional in April of 2005 and racked up a 12-0-2 record before meeting former world champion Carl Daniels, 50-16-1, taking the decision in May of 2009. He then went into the backyard of Tommy Karpency, 17-1-1, in West Virginia and lost in a WBA Fedecentro title bout over 10 rounds. He bounced back with a win over North Jersey’s Bobby Rooney, 11-2-1 at years end. He is a teacher and will have a room full of his students watching the professor.

There will be three 6 rounder’s and five 4 rounder’s on the undercard. Rooney will meet Patrick Perez, 25-7. Delaware’s Mike Tiberi, 12-1, will meet Brian Bernard 8-6-2. Virginia’s Jaywon Woods, 7-1-1, takes on Egypt’s Mazur Ali, 6-5. All three bouts are scheduled for 6 rounds.

Atlantic City’s Gabriel Pham, 2-0, meets Rondu Campbell, 2-5-1. Ridley Park, PA, heavyweight Jamie Campbell, 3-1, will meet Ricardo Johnson, 1-1. Tampa’s Dwayne Larry, Jr. 2-0, meets Jose Rivera 1-1-1. Female bouts will have two unbeaten New York featherweights in Amanda Serrano, 5-0-1, against Nydia Feliciano, 2-0-2 while debuting Althera Saunders meets Ashleigh Curry.

Doors open at 7:30 and first fight is at 8:30in the Tropicana’s Showroom. Ticket prices are $90/$75/$55/$40 with a portion going to the Vineland Boys & Girls Club. Tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster 1-800-745-3000 or Tropicana Box Office. For more information call 856-692-1206.
