1984 Olympic Boxing 25th Anniversary Reunion

The 1984 Olympic Boxing team will celebrate their reunion at Atlanta’s Marriott Century Center August 15th. It will be the first time each member will be together at one time.

There is also an effort being made by the Olympians themselves to promote dignity in boxing after “the last rounds” of a fighter’s career. Many of the Olympians on this team have felt the pressures of exploitation in the ring beyond their prime. In an effort to bring light onto this tragedy, each Olympian is

donating personal items to Alex Ramos’ Retired Boxers Foundation which shall be auctioned at a silent auction prior to the evening’s events with 100% of the proceeds going to the Foundation. They believe in the Retired Boxers Foundation, and some personally know former boxers and champions who have benefited from their work. Alex Ramos, having suffered the physical effects of boxing himself, has donated his life to developing dignity in retired boxers and aiding them in the tragedy of what is left beyond their boxing careers in a sport that quickly forgets them.

The following Olympians represented the USA in 1984: Tyrell Biggs, Henry Tillman, Evander Holyfield, Virgil Hill, Frank Tate, Mark Breland, Jerry Page, Pernell Whitaker, Meldrick Taylor, Robert Shannon, Paul Gonzales and Steve McCrory who is deceased but will be represented by a family member.
