We’ve heard from the former IBF Super middleweight champion Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy, 25-3 (17), who is not looking past Philadelphia’s Dhafir “No Fear” Smith, 23-19-7 (4) in their match Saturday at Jannus Landing, St. Petersburg, FL. This will be for the newly formed vacant Universal Boxing Organization’s super middleweight title over 12 rounds.

“I asked for this fight by calling the matchmaker. Two days later the match was set,” said Smith. He is 3-0-1 in his last four fights. He has fought for the WBC Youth title at 168 and 175. He also fought for the WBC Continental America 168 title and won the WBF All American 175 title.

Both boxers turned professional in 2001 but Lacy is 33 and Smith 28. Both are known for their left hands with Lacy’s hook and Smith’s jab. Smith has a couple of inches in height on Lacy who has not made 168 since 2006. Since losing his world title to Joe Calzaghe in 2006 he is 4-2 with no knockouts winning three of his decisions by majority.

For Smith it’s his biggest name opponent since losing to Andre Ward in 2007. He has fought in FL once losing to unbeaten Shaun George. He has fought in St. Petersburg, but it was in Russia. For Lacy it will be his fourth fight in FL, all in Tampa. It will be his first professional fight at home.

“I had a good camp sparring with Garrett “Ultimate Warrior” Wilson and Yusaf Mack (fighting for the USBA 175 title next) at Shuler’s Gym. Lacy’s a former world champion and is going to be in for a fight. He better have more than a left hook,” said Smith.

The co-promotion is by Aaron Jacob’s Fight Night Productions LLC and Lacy’s Left Hook Promotions.
