I’ve watched Jimmy Lennon and then his son and always thought they are the best but never met them for a one-on-one. I was introduced to a ring announcer named Larry Tornambe years ago. I was pleasantly surprised that he was more than a voice, but a very knowledgeable man on boxing. I would discover he boxed, had a 10 year radio career and writes. He has been doing all of this for the past 23 years. On top of that he has a great personality and can make one laugh. He is very at ease in the ring. Especially with the ring card girls!

He has worked for many promoters such as J Russell Peltz’ Peltz Boxing, Greg Robinson’s Power Productions, Dave Tiberi’s TNT Promotions, Diane Fischer’s Dee Lee Promotions, Duva Promotions, Marshall Kauffman’s Kings Promotions, Global Boxing, 4 Corner Promotions, Capital City Promotions, Spartan Boxing Promotions, Dover Downs Promotions, Vernoca Michael and the Legendary Blue Horizon Boxing Promotions, Nedal’s Promotions, Bionic Bull Promotions, Don Elbaum, David Feldman Boxing Promotions, Joey Eye Promotions, KA Promotions, Andre Kut’s KEA Boxing among others.

For example Tornambe worked Global Boxing show December 21st in Newark, NJ, and is next scheduled to work Power Productions January 11th in NE Philadelphia. He will be working two shows the week-end of January 25th at Dover Downs, in Dover, DE, and the next night at Harrah’s Philadelphia (Chester). Many boxing people have expressed their opinions about Tornambe such as:

“Larry is the only ring announcer that knows boxing top to bottom,” - Harold Lederman of HBO.

“Fabulous job. I can’t say enough about the good job you do,” - Greg Robinson of Power Productions.

“You are the man. You are Philadelphia,” - former world heavyweight champ Tim Witherspoon.

“I think you are one of the best announcers in the world” – Promoter/matchmaker Don Elbaum.

“You were instrumental in the success of the show” – Keith Stoffer of Capital City Promotions and now fight manager.

“You have a wonderful voice for this” – Lynn Carter (Boxing judge)

“Larry is a great ring announcer with bad jokes! He is a very knowledgeable guy when it comes to boxing. Always the consumate professional. I never use anyone else to do my shows no matter how much I may be pressured to use others. Larry is the best and also a good friend. Or as we Italians say paeson.” – Joey Eye

“Larry did the announcing for both Briscoe Awards and for the PA HOF dinner in 2012. More and more he’s becoming the go to guy. I guess this is his time. It’s Tornambe-time!” – John DiSanto of Philly Boxing History who holds Briscoe awards for top Philly boxers each year.

“I think I met Larry in 1987 at Frank’s Powerhouse Gym. He had a couple amateur bouts for me at Newark HS and he boxed me a couple of times. Larry had one pro fight for me. He took another fighters place at the last minute. Larry has always been a student of the game and knows quite a bit about boxing. We’ve been friends for a number of years. He’s always been a great guy. - Dave Ruff, a former fighter, now writer and trainer.

“Larry is the true professional who you know can give you the result the way it is supposed to be. Plus he is one of the most likeable guys in the ring today – Ken Hissner of DHB

“My adoration for the sport has been passed onto others with training and teaching boxing at the Elsmere Boxing Club and at Knockout Fitness Club,” said Tornambe.
