If Floyd Mayweather Jr. wanted to act like he was out of touch with the boxing fan, he did great job in hiring Andre Berto for his next match. Critics and fans alike are obviously pissed at this choice. Many have called for and wondered why Mayweather wouldn't take on more of a challenge in a guy like Gennady Golovkin. For his part, Golovkin has even offered to move down in weight to face Mayweather. As it is, Mayweather would rather take an easy fight and take home the bacon with little to no risk. Now as nice as a fight that would see Mayweather vs. Golovkin, I think there is a better fight to be made with Golovkin... I propose Manny Pacquiao vs. "GGG" Golovkin.
Mayweather vs. Golovkin in my opinion would be boring. It would be classic Mayweather picking his shots and running away from any danger Golovkin might pose. Mayweather would go on to win a lackluster 12 round unanimous decision. The only thing worth tuning in for, was the hope that Golovkin, known for his knock out power would land a Hail Mary and KO Mayweather... but c'mon, what are the chances of that?
Now Pacquiao vs. Golovkin would be a whole different beast of a fight. If styles make a fight... then this one is a sure fire bet to please the fans. Pacquiao's come forward style would match well with Golovkin.
If Golovkin should win in a spectacular fashion.... say a knockout of Pacquiao... it would send a strong message to not only Mayweather, but fans - Golovkin is the real deal.
If Pacquiao won, it would be an impressive victory. Perhaps Pacquiao could win by knock out, or dominate over 12 rounds. Either way, it would rank up there with some of Pacquiao's greatest hits... and an amazing way to wind down his career.
As a Pay-per-view event, I feel Pacquiao vs. Golovkin would do as well as Mayweather vs. Golovkin in terms of revenue and sales. Since Golovkin has called out Mayweather, but Mayweather is doing Berto... why not call out Pacquiao?
