Manny Pacquiao - Canelo Alvarez
Manny Pacquiao - Canelo Alvarez
Yesterday I wrote a piece on how I wouldn't mind seeing Manny Pacquiao vs. Gennady Golovkin. My point was, since Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn't seem interested in Golovkin, then perhaps Golovkin should call out Pacquiao. Big money, and a highly interesting match for sure. It got me to thinking about other fights I'd like to see Pacquiao in. Today, I propose Pacquiao vs. Saul Canelo Alvarez.

Canelo is on the fast track to super stardom. He most likely seems to be heading in a fight with Miguel Cotto next. Cotto vs. Canelo is a great fight and should Canelo get past Cotto (or if the fight doesn't happen), then the next step for Canelo should be Pacquiao.

Why not? It most certainly would be Pay-per-view material. I can imagine 700k plus ppv-buys on the low end! Pacquiao's style matched with Canelo's would make for a highly entertaining battle. These two are fighters who perfer to mix it up and not back down.

A win for Canelo would not only make him an overnight sensation, but it would also propel him to the top of the food chain in boxing. It would also instantly make him a global star.

If he loses to Pacquiao, the consolation is a huge pay day. He is young, no one will blame him for losing to Pacquiao. His career will still go on in a positive way. Much in the same way it did when Canelo lost to Mayweather. His career did not end, rather it moved forward - and his wallett got a lot fatter.

A win for Pacquiao would put Pacman back on top. Sure, we will never get the sour taste of his fight with Mayweather out of our mouths (plenty of blame on both sides there), but it will show what we pretty much all know, Pacman is still A+ material. A win for Pacquiao be it either by knockout or a unanimous decision would be an excellent way for Pacquiao to end his career. He could go out on a high and give the fans one last good bang for their buck.

Maybe boxing promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank (Team Pacquiao) and Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions (Team Canelo) should be looking at one another... Pacquiao vs. Canelo would be an epic match-up and certainly one hot event.

Pacquiao vs. Canelo?! Yes please!

Tomorrow, I'll have another fight in which I think would be great for Pacquiao.

FOR PART ONE OF MY SERIES:
Manny Pacquiao vs. Gennady Golovkin is the fight - Not Money vs. GGG
