Bouzid Tops Messi for EBA rematch in Italy
Media Report (May 2, 2004)
French WBA International-EBA Welterweight Champion Mustapha Bouzid retained his Crown by majority points decision after some excellent twelve rounds of boxing last night in Bergamo, Italy (Friday, April 30th). Challenger was local hero Luca Messi (now 25-4-1) and this was the Title rematch when four months ago Frenchman Bouzid (now 24-9-1) captured the EBA Crown from Messi by stoppage in three rounds.

Bouzid proved to be a deserving Champion after last night win; however Messi started well and looked much stronger and concentrated than last December being the aggressor throughout the first half, with Bouzid counterpunching his foe with some occasional uppercuts. In round eight referee Mr. Martinez (Spain) penalized Bouzid for pushing and holding too much and Messi looked on his way to win the clash but Bouzid regrouped strength and basically dominated the later rounds with an increased pressure. The official scores from the neutral EBA judges were: Ove Ovesen (Denmark) 116-111, Henk Meijers (Holland) 116-112 and Artur Ellensohn (Germany) 114-115. Fightnews.com reporter Mr. Alessandro Ferrarini at ringside had also a trustful scoring of 115-112 for Bouzid.

On the supporting bill Messi stablemate Michele Orlando (23-4) clearly won by unanimous point decision to Alban Mothie (15-12-2) of France over six rounds in another welterweight contest. Promoter of the event Mario Loreni told Mr. Ferrarini that he now plans to match Orlando versus Bouzid for the EBA Crown, in a move intended to “restore the Italian pride”.

Also on the card, cruiserweight Fabio Tuiach had an impressive pro debut stopping usually durable Marian Miko in the second round.
