Top Heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko to Headline CBS Fight Card By Jim Genia (Nov 6, 2009) DoghouseBoxing
Fedor Emelianenko, the consensus top heavyweight fighter in the world, is set to headline Strikeforce’s “Fedor vs. Rogers” card on CBS this Saturday night. This will mark the enigmatic Russian’s first true introduction to casual American viewers, who are largely unaware of Fedor’s reputation and accomplishments in such now-defunct promotions as Pride Fighting Championships and Affliction.
Known for his virtually unblemished record, unmatched resiliency and ability to either knock opponents out or submit them, Fedor is widely considered the best ranked above even the UFC’s stable of heavyweights. Facing him will be Brett Rogers, a big-punching Minnesota native with a resume far less impressive but believed to be very capable of landing a game-changing blow at any time.
Also on the card is a middleweight championship contest between grappling ace Jake Shields and MTV “Bully Beatdown” star Jason Miller, a light-heavyweight pairing between master striker Gegard “the Armenian Assassin” Mousasi and Cameroonian judo champ Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, and Brazilian heavyweights Fabricio Werdum and Antonio Silva.
Saturday night’s card, broadcast live from Chicago, Illinois, will be the Tiffany Network’s fourth foray into the realm of live mixed martial arts, with prior CBS offerings featuring Kimbo Slice and Gina Carano.
