Open Letter to UK's Number 1 Promoter, Frank Warren By Spud Woollatt (April 26, 2005)
Frank Warren
Dear Mr. Warren,
Firstly it goes without saying you need to be congratulated on putting on Kostya Tszyu/ Ricky Hatton and of course Scott Harrison and Michael Brodie. Although some fans say you could have put fights on of this nature a lot sooner ... I say "It's better late than never". Also I would like to say it is extremely outrageous for people to suggest the only reason why you are putting these fights on now is because it is reported you and your Promotional Company will be in negotiations for a new TV contract in June ... what a terrible thing to suggest.
I notice you are putting on Matt Skelton v Danny Williams. To be honest this fight for me is the best of the lot. Some say it could be a bit of a bore but I am utterly intrigued on how Matt Skelton fares against a lot higher class opponent than he has faced thus far in his career.
So go on Mr. Warren give yourself a big pat on the back!
Unfortunately that is where the praise stops. Whilst it is true you are this countries Number 1 Promotional outfit. I read this morning you have commented in your article that you have put your fair share of exciting showdowns in this country. Come on Mr. Warren you know and the fans know you could have put on a lot more. Please tell me through your Media sources if you feel I am wrong.
You also say in your article that a lot of prospects have been learning their trade over the last couple of years and it is now time to see what they are made of ... were you referring to Joe Calzaghe?
Mr. Warren, you will have loads of support from boxing fans on this site and all over the Country if this time you genuinely mean you are going to be putting on Big Fights.
You will also have masses of support if you also finally accept that the fans on various boxing Internet sites do have a right to voice their opinions on the wide and varied discussion points which go on in boxing.
Could you tell us how the discussions are going with Sky TV concerning your new contract, or, do you intend to branch out to terrestrial TV?
With Regards From Your Number 1 Fan
Spud Woollatt!
